Questions 10-16

Traffic means everything using the roads. Taxis, buses, cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, tongas and rickshaws etc. are traffic. You are a part of the traffic when you walk along the pavement.
Today, more and more people live in cities. As a result, there is a lot of traffic. The roads are too narrow. Some roads are broken and there are pits and ditches in them. The result is that there are many accidents. Why do accidents happen? Some people say it is the fault of the people who use the roads. That means everybody. If every road-user is careful, there will be no accidents. We must improve our roads. Our roads should be smooth and straight. Roads with corners and blind corners are dangerous.
Accidents often happen when one road crosses another. Sometimes there are traffic lights. At some crossings, a policeman directs the traffic. Some roads do not cross each other. Instead, one road goes high over another road. This is called a ‘fly-over’. This is a good idea because the traffic does not have to stop and the vehicles do not hit each other. We all use the roads. I. First find a safe place to cross, then stop.
